HISTORY
OF THE PURPLE LOTUS SOCIETY
|
|
The
Purple Lotus Society was founded on May 2, 1987. In October 1988, with
the establishment of the first board of directors, the society registered
with the state of California as a non-profit religious organization. The
objective of Purple Lotus Society is to promote, with compassion and dedication,
the True Buddha Tantric Dharma to help sentient beings.
Purple Lotus Society has funneled more
than 10,000 people under the refuge of Grand Master Lu since its initiation.
Several hundred followers regularly attend ceremonies hosted by Master
Samantha at Purple Lotus Society. Since Purple Lotus Society at San
Bruno has limited space, it can only host small ceremonies of about
a hundred people, no major ones. As a result Grand Master Lu instructed
the organization in 1999 to buy 5 acres of land in Fremont, CA, for
future construction of the Purple Lotus Temple. In the year 2001, Purple
Lotus Society's name was officially changed to Purple Lotus Temple.
