30 Day Yellow Pearl Kuan Yin Wish Fulfilling practice
By LeTien
I began applying to medical school in May of 2001. All along
I had wanted to get into a school in California, ideally a UC
school. I had heard from many people that it is very difficult
to get into a school in CA because there are so many medical school
applicants from CA. In fact, I was told that the number of applicants
from CA make up almost 30% of the applicants in the entire country,
so most applicants from CA end up going to other states to go
to medical school. (There are only seven medical schools in the
state, and each school accepts about 90-150 students. Of the seven
medical schools in CA, five are UC schools, and these are $25,000-$30,000
cheaper than private medical schools.)
My mom then told me one day of a talk Master Samantha gave on
the Yellow Pearl Kuan Yin 30 day wish fulfilling practice. She
told me that Kuan Yin had told Master Samantha that whoever did
the practice sincerely and made a wish would definitely have the
wish fulfilled. I immediately thought of doing the practice to
get into a UC school. But when I thought about it later, doubt
crept into my mind. Part of me did not really believe that the
practice would work, and I was afraid that if I did the practice
and my wish to get into a UC school did not come true, then not
only would I be disappointed by not getting into a UC, but I would
also lose faith in the practice. So initially, I did not want
to try it.
I interviewed at UC Irvine early in December of 2001. After visiting
the school, I loved the campus so much that I desperately wanted
to go to this school. I had heard many good things about the school
from students, friends, and alumni, and out of the nine schools
I eventually interviewed at, UCI quickly became my first choice.
On my own, I prayed constantly that I would get into Irvine. But
finally, after a month passed and I did not receive an acceptance
from any schools, I began to worry. I had applied to 21 schools
around the country, but several friends had applied to 30-40 schools!
What if I did not get in anywhere? I had heard many stories of
people who had to apply several times to medical school because
they could not get in on the first try. Would I have to go through
the whole process again next year if I did not get in anywhere?
My desire to get into UCI grew so that I was willing to do anything
necessary within my means to get in. Since I could do nothing
more for the admissions office but wait to here final word from
them, I decided finally to try the 30 Day Kuan Yin Practice.
I started the practice on January 22, 2002. Every day, I visualized
receiving an acceptance letter from UC Irvine inside Kuan Yin’s
pearl. As the days passed, I gained a greater sense of calm and
well being. Around the third week, I began to feel that even if
I did not get into Irvine, then that would be okay too. Hopefully
I would get into at least one school, and if I did not get into
UC Irvine, then maybe it was just not meant to be. Perhaps I had
something waiting for me at another school and perhaps there were
greater hindrances waiting for me at Irvine, I thought. By changing
my way of thinking, I realized that I could be happy wherever
I ended up going. I continued to do the practice to get into Irvine,
but I was not as stressed and anxious as I had been before I had
started the practice.
I finished the 30th day of the practice on February 20, 2002.
The following day I received an acceptance letter from New York
Medical College. I was elated. It was my first acceptance and
it gave me a huge sense of relief. Had it been a coincidence that
I just happened to receive an acceptance the day following my
completion of the 30 day practice? Either way, I was still happy
and extremely grateful that I was accepted into a school. I had
also liked NYMC’s campus and was happy at the thought of
going there. Two months later, I received a second acceptance
from Georgetown University. I decided to go to Georgetown over
NYMC and was excited to have gotten into such a prestigious school.
I began to mentally prepare for the move to Washington DC and
was happy that I would be going to medical school in such a beautiful
location. Yet all along, part of me still wished that I could
get into UC Irvine.
Then in July, right before I was about to buy my plane ticket
to DC, I received a call from the Assistant Dean of Admissions
at UC Irvine. They were offering me an acceptance! I accepted
the invitation without hesitation. By that time, I had almost
forgotten about the 30 day practice I had done 4 months earlier.
But my wish did eventually come true, and now I am starting medical
school at UC Irvine. Seven of my friends, who had also applied
to medical school from UC Berkeley with me, all ended up moving
to the east coast for med school. They had all wanted to get into
a CA school. Tuition and living expenses for them at their east
coast private schools will be over $50,000 per year (medical school
is 4 years). Tuition and living expenses at UCI will be around
$25,000/yr. And in addition to saving money going to UCI, I will
also be closer to home and enjoying sunny southern California
weather. Om mani padme hum!
